What Personal Data We Collect And Why We Collect It

Outside Sites (Their Privacy Policies May be Different)

The website contains links to other websites, like affiliate’s websites or links to booksellers, that may offer products or services that customers might find useful. These sites may request information from you. In such instances, the collection and use of your personal information will be governed by the privacy policy applicable to that site. I do not control the privacy policies, contents, or links that appear on these sites. I encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites or services before providing any of them with your personal information.

How and Why I Collect Information

I collect your information in order to record and support your participation in my mailing list. The information is used to enroll you in my mailing list and to track your preferences. As a visitor to my website, you can engage in many activities without providing any personal information.

If you do not wish to receive emails, you may opt out at any time. I include an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every e-mail I send. If you have any trouble opting out, please send an email to me. I will manually remove you from my email list(s).

In connection with other activities, such as those described above, I may ask you to provide certain information about yourself by filling out and submitting an online form. It is completely optional for you to engage in these activities. If you elect to engage in these activities, however, I may ask that you provide personal information. If you do not provide the mandatory data with respect to a particular activity, you will not be able to engage in that activity.

Analytics

When you use my website, I may also collect certain technical and routing information from you to facilitate your use of the website and its services. I use this information to administer the website and to understand and measure traffic patterns on the site so that I know which areas of my site are favorites of users, which areas need improvement, and what technologies are being used so that I may continually improve my site. This information is collected in aggregate form, without identifying you or any user individually. I may use this aggregate, non-identifying statistical data for statistical analysis, marketing, or similar promotional purposes.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Leaving Comments on Our Site

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

This website may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
